Off-Campus Move Out Trash Pick Up Guidelines

The City of Providence has confirmed the following dates as the targeted year end, off-campus trash pick-up dates:


May 22, June 5th – (Elmhurst /  PC Area ) May 21st, June 4th  (east side/ fox point)
May24th, June7th- (Washington Park)  
May25th, June 8th (Federal Hill)  


Mattress Depot/ E-  Waste Locations:

May 23rd– PC’s Eaton & Pembroke Gate (Elmhurst) 9am-2:30pm

May 24th– 700 Allens Avenue, (Washington Park)  3-7pm

The City of Providence has strict guidelines for trash disposal. Failure to comply with the guidelines may result in fines ranging from $50 -$250.

Generally an appointment is needed for disposal of bulky items, however the City recognizes the need to organize and make the transition as smooth as possible for everyone. Please place bulky items out at the curb on (insert date) for pick-up. If you do not place bulky items at the curb on these dates, you must call Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545 at 24 hours in advance of the pick-up day.

Any item that does not fit in the Big Green Can (BGC) is considered a bulky item. You must schedule a pickup or place it at the curb for pick-up on the scheduled date.

Mattresses/ Boxsprings are not considered bulky items, they require separate handling.

How do you dispose of a mattress or box spring in Providence?

PICK-UP -You may call Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545 to schedule a pick-up; you must call before 3pm at least 24 hours prior to your regular collection day. Waste Management call center hours are Monday –Friday from 8am-5pm. The cost of curbside pick-up for mattresses and box springs is $20/ piece, payments by check and credit cards are accepted.

Drop-Off– Avoid paying the $20 fee. Drop your mattress & box spring off directly at the Mattress / E-waste Drop Off site, located at Eaton & Pembroke Avenue. The Mattress/ E-waste Drop Off site will be available from 9am-2:30pm on Thursday, May 24th.

What is E-waste?

E-waste  is considered TV’s, computers, printers, DVD/VCR players, toaster, microwaves, etc. (any item that requires electricity to function)

Electronic equipment must be recycled, it can not be placed in a Big Green Can for disposal.

PICK-UP– You may call Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545 to schedule an e-waste pick-up.

Drop-Off– E-waste drop off site will be available on May 24th from 9:00am-2:30pm in the Elmhurst neighborhood Eaton Street @ Pembroke.  Providence College Campus-Smith Center

E-waste drop off will be available on May 24th from 3-7pm Washington Park Neighborhood.  Department of Public Works, 700 Allens Avenue.

The following items are considered hazardous waste and can not be placed in a BGC for disposal: Anti-freeze bottles, motor oil bottles, pesticide spray bottles, oil filters, paint thinner cans, propane gas tanks, thermometers, oil-based paint cans.

Recycling containers must accompany your BGC to the curb, for every one BGC you must have two recycling containers, one for bottles, cans and glass and the other for paper and cardboard, failure to place recycling containers at the curb may result in a fine ranging from $50-$250.
